Sync WorkCam photos to Dropbox
WorkCam can automatically copy your work albums, photos, and videos to your own Dropbox account.
Dropbox is one of WorkCam's third-party storage integrations, alongside iCloud and Google Drive. Connect it once, choose which albums to sync, and WorkCam keeps uploading new media in the background as you capture it.
Dropbox sync requires WorkCam 3.1.8 or later. If you do not see Dropbox on the Storage Providers screen, update WorkCam from the App Store.
Do I need a subscription to sync with Dropbox?
No. Third-party storage integrations — Dropbox, Google Drive, and iCloud — are free. You only need to be signed in to a WorkCam account.
Photo Sync is a separate, optional subscription. It backs your media up to WorkCam's own storage and shares it across your team and devices. You do not need it to use Dropbox.
There is one exception. WorkCam can only upload a photo it can actually reach. If a photo is no longer stored on your device — for example it was captured on another device, or local copies were cleared to save space — the only place to fetch it from is WorkCam's own storage, and that requires Photo Sync. Photos still held on your device upload to Dropbox with no subscription at all.
Connecting Dropbox
- Open WorkCam and go to Account.
- Tap Storage Providers.
- Choose Dropbox and sign in to your Dropbox account.
- Grant WorkCam access when Dropbox asks.
- Choose All Albums to sync everything automatically, or Selected Albums to pick specific albums.
New photos and videos in the albums you selected upload from then on.
Where WorkCam puts your files in Dropbox
WorkCam creates and manages its own folder structure — you do not pick a destination:
Apps → Work Cam → [your team id] → [album name] → your photos and videos
Nested albums keep their structure, so an album inside another album becomes a folder inside a folder.
Why is there a folder with a long random name?
That is your team id. WorkCam files each team's content in its own folder so content from different teams never mixes together. It is not meant to be readable — your albums are the folders inside it, named exactly as they are in the app.
Does WorkCam get access to all of my Dropbox?
No. WorkCam is a Dropbox App folder app. It can only see and write to its own Apps/Work Cam folder. The rest of your Dropbox is not visible to WorkCam and cannot be read or modified by it.
Album names that look slightly different in Dropbox
Dropbox rejects the characters / \ : ? * " < > | in file and folder names. If an album name contains one — for example Panel HA/LA — WorkCam substitutes a look-alike character so the folder still reads correctly to you and two different albums never collide into one folder.
Dropbox sync is one way
Storage integrations are one way: WorkCam copies your albums and media out to Dropbox. Nothing is read back into WorkCam, and files you add to the folder in Dropbox will not appear in the app.
This is a deliberate change from WorkCam's original Dropbox integration, which synced in both directions. Every storage integration now behaves the same way.
You can still send individual photos to Dropbox by selecting them in WorkCam and using the system share sheet, as long as the Dropbox app is installed on your device. That is separate from automatic album sync.
Troubleshooting
I do not see Dropbox on the Storage Providers screen
Dropbox sync needs WorkCam 3.1.8 or later. Older versions either shipped a previous, since retired version of the integration or had no Dropbox support at all, so the option is not offered to them.
Update WorkCam from the App Store and Dropbox will appear alongside iCloud and Google Drive.
I used the old Dropbox integration and my Dropbox files no longer come into WorkCam
That is expected. The original integration synced both ways; the current one is one way, so WorkCam copies out to Dropbox and no longer imports from it. Files already in WorkCam are unchanged — what stopped is new content flowing from Dropbox into the app.
If you relied on that import, the system share sheet is the way to bring specific files in from the Dropbox app.
Dropbox synced but I am not seeing the expected files
Try syncing again from the Storage Providers screen. It is safe to sync many times — WorkCam will not upload duplicates of the same photo or video.
Check the messages on the Dropbox card first: a failed album reports itself there.
Sync seems to pause on large albums
Dropbox limits how fast an app may write to an account. When WorkCam hits that limit it waits out the delay Dropbox asks for and then continues, rather than failing the upload. A large first sync can take a while for this reason.
Still stuck?
Email info@nineonesoftware.com with the album name and roughly when you synced. If you are seeing an error message, include it — you can tap and hold a message to copy it.
