Scan a QR code
WorkCam's camera can recognize QR codes while you are pointed at them. When a code containing a web link is detected, WorkCam presents that link so you can open it — useful for equipment tags, product labels, job site signage, and the QR codes that increasingly appear on packaging and permits.
Detection happens live in the camera viewport. You do not need to take a photo of the code.
Turn QR code detection on
QR code detection is a camera setting rather than a separate mode:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Camera.
- Turn on QR Code Detection.
Once enabled, WorkCam watches for codes whenever the camera is open.
What gets detected
WorkCam looks for QR codes specifically, and presents the result when the code contains a URL.
Two things follow from that:
- Other barcode formats — the striped product barcodes on retail packaging, for example — are not detected.
- A QR code holding something other than a link, such as plain text or contact details, will not produce a link to open.
Scanning does not save the code as a photo
Detecting a QR code is a separate action from capturing media. Nothing is added to Pending Photos or to an album when a code is recognized — WorkCam simply offers you the link.
If you want a record of the code itself, take a photo of it the way you would photograph anything else.
Troubleshooting
No link appears when I point at a code
Check Settings → Camera → QR Code Detection first — detection is off unless it has been turned on.
If it is on, the likely causes are the code itself:
- The code holds text rather than a link, so there is nothing to open.
- It is a barcode rather than a QR code.
- It is too small, too far away, or too badly lit to resolve. Move closer and make sure the whole code is inside the viewport.
The same code keeps re-appearing
After a code is detected WorkCam waits briefly before offering the same one again, so that holding the camera steady on a code does not present it repeatedly.
