Storage Integrations

Automatically copy your WorkCam albums, photos, and videos to your own iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive account — free, and one way.

Upload WorkCam media to your own cloud storage

WorkCam can automatically copy your work albums, photos, and videos to a cloud storage account you already own. Connect a provider once, choose which albums to include, and WorkCam keeps uploading new media in the background as you capture it.

Four providers are supported:

  • iCloud Drive
  • Google Drive
  • Dropbox
  • OneDrive

You can connect more than one. Each provider receives its own copy, and connecting one never sends anything to another.

If a provider is missing from the Storage Providers screen, update WorkCam from the App Store — OneDrive needs WorkCam 3.1.11 or later, and Dropbox needs 3.1.8 or later.

Uploads are one way

Storage integrations copy your albums and media out of WorkCam to the provider. Nothing is read back into WorkCam: files you add to the folder in iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive will not appear in the app, and deleting a file there does not delete it from WorkCam.

That makes an integration a copy you control — somewhere your work media also lives, in a place you can open from any computer, hand to an office manager, or keep for your records.

Why the old Dropbox and iCloud behaviour changed

Earlier versions of WorkCam synced Dropbox and iCloud in both directions — for example, dragging photos into the WorkCam folder on a Mac would import them into the app. Every integration now works the same one-way way. Media that was already imported stays in WorkCam; what stopped is new content flowing from the provider into the app.

To bring a specific file in from a provider, open it in that provider's app and use the system share sheet to send it to WorkCam.

Do I need a subscription?

No. Storage integrations are free. You only need to be signed in to a WorkCam account.

Photo Sync is a separate, optional subscription. It backs your media up to WorkCam's own storage and shares it across your team and devices. You do not need it to use a storage integration.

Learn about Photo Sync

The one case where Photo Sync matters

WorkCam can only upload a photo it can actually reach. If a photo is no longer stored on your device — it was captured on a teammate's device, or local copies were cleared to save space — the only place to fetch it from is WorkCam's own storage, and that requires Photo Sync.

Those photos show a message explaining this on the provider's card. Everything still stored on your device uploads with no subscription at all.

Connect a provider

  1. Open WorkCam and go to Account.
  2. Tap Storage Providers.
  3. Choose iCloud, Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive.
  4. Sign in to that provider and grant WorkCam access when asked. iCloud uses the Apple Account your device is already signed in to, so there is nothing to sign in to.
  5. Choose All Albums to upload everything automatically, or Selected Albums to pick specific albums.

New photos and videos in the albums you chose upload from then on. You can sync again at any time from the provider's card on the same screen.

You sign in with the provider directly. WorkCam never sees your password for that account.

Where your files go

WorkCam creates and manages its own folder in each provider — you do not pick a destination. Inside it, every team has its own folder, and your albums are folders inside that:

ProviderLocation
iCloud DriveWorkCam → [team id] → [album name]
Google DriveWorkCam → [team id] → [album name]
DropboxApps → Work Cam → [team id] → [album name]
OneDriveWorkCam → [team id] → [album name]

Nested albums keep their structure, so an album inside another album becomes a folder inside a folder. With Google Drive, if you use Selected Albums, select the parent album as well as the album nested inside it — a nested album whose parent is not selected cannot be placed in Drive yet.

Why is there a folder with a long random name?

That is your team id. WorkCam files each team's content in its own folder so content from different teams never mixes together. It is not meant to be readable — your albums are the folders inside it, named exactly as they are in the app.

Album names that look slightly different

Cloud providers reject some characters in folder names — / \ : ? * " < > |. If an album name contains one, such as Panel HA/LA, WorkCam substitutes a look-alike character so the folder still reads correctly and two different albums never collide into one folder.

Some providers also have trouble with emoji in folder names. If an album with an emoji in its name will not sync, renaming it is the quickest fix.

What WorkCam can access in your account

WorkCam only creates and writes to its own folder. How each provider enforces that differs:

  • Dropbox — WorkCam is a Dropbox App folder app. Dropbox itself limits it to Apps/Work Cam; the rest of your Dropbox is not visible to WorkCam.
  • iCloud Drive — WorkCam writes to its own iCloud container, which appears as the WorkCam folder in iCloud Drive.
  • Google Drive and OneDrive — WorkCam creates a WorkCam folder at the top level of your drive and writes only inside it. It does not modify anything else. OneDrive's sign-in screen asks for permission to read and write your files, because that is the permission Microsoft offers for an app to create its own folder.

To revoke WorkCam's access entirely, disconnect it from the provider's own account settings as well as from WorkCam.

Disconnecting

Disconnect a provider from the Storage Providers screen at any time, and uploads to it stop.

Media that has already been uploaded stays in your provider account. It is yours to keep or delete — WorkCam never removes files from your account on your behalf.

Troubleshooting

A provider is missing from the Storage Providers screen

Update WorkCam from the App Store. OneDrive needs 3.1.11 or later and Dropbox needs 3.1.8 or later.

Files in my provider no longer appear in WorkCam

That is expected — see Uploads are one way. The original Dropbox and iCloud integrations imported files; the current integrations do not.

Some photos say they cannot be uploaded without Photo Sync

Those photos are no longer stored on this device, so WorkCam has no copy to upload. See The one case where Photo Sync matters.

Sync finished but I am not seeing the expected files

Check the messages on the provider's card first — a failed album or photo reports itself there, and failed photos are retried on the next sync.

Then try syncing again from the Storage Providers screen. It is safe to sync many times — WorkCam will not upload duplicates of the same photo or video.

Sync seems to pause on large albums

Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive limit how fast an app may write to an account. When WorkCam hits that limit it waits out the delay the provider asks for and then continues, rather than failing the upload. A large first sync can take a while for this reason; the provider's card shows how many photos have uploaded so far.

Google Drive albums with an apostrophe in the name

Earlier versions of WorkCam could fail to sync — or create a duplicate folder for — a Google Drive album with an apostrophe in its name, such as Smith's Garage. This is fixed; update WorkCam from the App Store.

Still stuck?

Email info@nineonesoftware.com with the provider, the album name, and roughly when you synced. If you are seeing an error message, include it — you can tap and hold a message to copy it.
